Fracture: The Dream/theories

Game Walkthrough Gallery Theories

Monoe and Madotsuki's relationship

There are several conclusions to be made about Monoe and Madotsuki's relationship based on the ending events in the game:

  1. Either Madotsuki is selfish or manipulative and controls the flows of her dreams however she wants, or Monoe turned out to be the only character to gain self-awareness, hence bearing purpose for achieving independence and "saving the world" (a line with possibly similar meaning is actually said by Monoko after the player defuses all the bombs in Blue Town).
  2. Monoe grew tired of Madotsuki being the only person allowed to wander and do anything with full freedom and decided to gain authority over the dream world for herself.
  3. This fangame follows the "Monoe = Madotsuki's past self" theory, and hints at the original Yume Nikki ending after Monoe throws Madotsuki off the throne.
  4. Madotsuki tried to forget her past self by the events of the "fake ending", making Monoe aware of her behavior as a result.

Madotsuki died in her sleep or lost track on what is reality and what is fantasy

Another theory about the ending is that Monoe actually forced Madotsuki to die in her sleep, stomping down her obituary and replacing it for a chance of total subconscious world control.

Interestingly enough, the whole world does not disappear after Monoe defeats Madotsuki, which could possibly tie back to the "Monoe = Madotsuki's past self" theory.

Monoko has anxiety about becoming homeless

The plot provides us one quick fact about Monoko during the game: Monoko not only lost her home place after "mass Mars" meteorite attacks, but also got into an unknown territory attack while moving to a new place. Monoko also seems to be anxious while providing Monoe information about the presence of bombs in the apartment buildings of Blue Town ("How could this happen?! I can't be homeless forever!")

After defusing the bombs and interacting with Monoko, she says:

" Now you saved the town! "

" Thank you! I'll enjoy my room now! "

Following the theory that Monoko is based on someone Madotsuki knew in the real world, Monoko could have been someone who lost her home and had serious struggles with obtaining a new one.
