Overview

Umbra is an English Yume Nikki fangame made by Rusch (Mugi) in RPG Maker 2003.

The game is praised for having well made graphics, music, and attention to detail despite being a demo.

Gameplay

Umbra is the first fangame to use talk sprites, as well as the first to make dialogue an important gameplay element. Other fangames have since adopted this format such as The Looking Glass.

The gameplay is traditional in that the player is collecting effects, but with the addition of more puzzles and dialogue choices that affect the game. The method of "dreaming" is though the TV, while saving is done in the bed. The Nexus is an old arcade, arcade machines serving as the Nexus' "doors".

Plot

Umbra stars Scott, a boy who gets trapped inside his home due to a storm. The game starts off with him walking into his home and commenting on how cold it is outside. As Scott is unable to leave his apartment, the main focus of the game is on exploring his dream world.

Baseball Bat		Scott holds a baseball bat as a weapon, which can be used to kill NPC's. Most NPC's will run from you with this effect equipped.
Pajamas		Scott wears pajamas.

Girl		Scott dresses up like a girl. Only obtainable in Debug Room.
Sugar Cube		Scott turns into a walking sugar cube. Only obtainable in Debug Room.
