Yume Aruki (ゆめあるき)/theories

Game Walkthrough Gallery Theories

Wanderlust

Many elements of the game suggest that Twill has a strong desire to travel, perhaps out of nostalgia, although this is more likely to be due to a need to escape her monotonous life.

  • The title of the game "ゆめあるき" literally means dream of a walk.
  • There are many books and letters lying around the room. We can assume that these contain stories of travels, making Twill fantasize about exotic and distant countries, embellished in poems for example.
  • Many of the worlds are figurative outdoor environments, suggesting with the "outdoor clothes" effect that Twill wants to go outside. Perhaps in a figurative sense, but also in a more symbolic way, the heroine wanting to go beyond her everyday life.
  • The significance of the effects in reality shows that Twill is trying to sublimate elements of her life. Perhaps she is unconsciously trying to break down the barrier between dream and reality, and does not know where to stand between her fantasies and reality.
  • The two endings, which give an important place to the "outdoor clothes" effect, confirm this theory. Indeed, the end of the game depends on whether Twill chooses to put back the "outdoor clothes" effect. If she chooses the former, she can find it in the real world and leave her room. This means that she has succeeded in getting out of her dreams, that she now has the will to live them. In the second option, Twill cannot come out, she sits and cries in the middle of the objects, which she sublimates into "effects" in her dreams. This shows that Twill does not dare to realize her dream, perhaps because she prefers the false version of the places she wants to visit in her dreams.

Twill is a Youth

  • Her dreams are much more light in tone than most other fangames, to the point of noticeable near-absence of blood, or chasers.
  • Her effects point to a hobby of dressing up. Almost all of them are cutesy cosmetic effects that feature special animations.
  • This theory puts her in the age range of 10-14, where she'd be a lot less likely to be edgy.
