Overview

Agony is a Japanese fangame created by myrica in RPG Maker VX Ace. The original release of this game was in English, starring Tsukiya and Miyo Yanohi. A remake was released, replacing the protagonists with Aoi (葵) and Yuuka (優香) and changing the primary language to Japanese.

Gameplay

Agony plays like a traditional fangame, where the objective is to collect effects in the dream world.

Version 0.01 Remake

At the start of the game, the player can choose between Aoi and Yuuka. Aoi can access the Nexus immediately by leaving her room and save at her desk. Yuuka enters the dream world by sleeping in her bed and saves using the book on her desk.

Aoi and Yuuka have different types of Media (メディア). Aoi has two different Media: usable effects and collectibles. Yuuka, on the other hand, only has usable effects. Additionally, both have Memories (思い出) that are required to unlock endings.

Tsukiya has two types of effects she can collect: Traumas and Fragments. Both can be accessed from the "traumas" option in the menu. She can access the dream world by leaving her room. The book on her desk is used to save.

Miyo only has one type of usable effects (called Effects), located in the "acts" section of the menu. Miyo can also collect unusable Memories. Miyo enters the dream world by sleeping at her table. The desk on the left is used to save.

Plot

Version 0.01 (Remake)

You can play as either Aoi or Yuuka, two girls unwilling and/or unable to leave their rooms, and explore their dreams. The statuses on their pause menus and information in the debug room suggest that the two are sisters, with Aoi being older and Yuuka, the younger. The pause menu labels Aoi a "lost spirit", implying that she might be deceased.

Tsukiya is (possibly) comatose and her dreams hint at a dark past. Miyo's dreams on the other hand are more light-hearted. One area in Tsukiya's dreams implies that Tsukiya and Miyo know each other.

Aoi's Media (Effects)

Name	Image	Description
Brush (筆)		Aoi holds a white brush and wears a white shirt. This effect allows her to remove crescent moon panels found throughout the dream world, revealing hidden paths or objects.
Umbrella (傘)		Aoi holds a green umbrella and floats off the ground.
Watercolor (水彩画)		Aoi's sprite is brightly colored and watercolor-esque. As of ver. 0.045, this has been replaced with the Brush effect.
Soul Candle (魂蝋燭)		Aoi holds a candle with a blue flame. This effect allows her to kill NPCs by interacting with them.
Police (警官)		Aoi wears a police uniform. Pressing Shift makes her invisible. As of ver. 0.03, this has been replaced with the Cookie effect.
Star (星)		Aoi wears a suit in the style of the American flag. Pressing Shift returns her to the Nexus.
Albino (白変種)		Aoi has very pale skin and hair, along with red eyes and a dark dress. Pressing Shift makes the screen flash, revealing hidden objects.
Box (紙箱)		Aoi becomes a blue box, lowering her speed slightly.
Medicine Bottle (薬瓶)		Aoi's head becomes a medicine bottle. As of ver. 0.03, this has been replaced with the Confetti effect.
Soul Butterfly (霊蝶)		Aoi becomes a light purple butterfly.
Eagle (鷲)		Aoi's skin and hair turns white, her sweater changes to blue with a white star, her skirt turns red, and her legs becomes birdlike. This effect increases her movement speed.
Confetti (金平糖)		Aoi's palette becomes a rainbow-pastel color. This effect drastically increases her movement speed. It can also reveal hidden stick-men and trigger reactions from specific NPCs.
Cookie (洋菓子)		Aoi wears a light school-like uniform; her skin becomes paler and her hair is white-brown. She has a cookie on her head. Pressing Shift replaces Aoi's head with a cookie.
Alive (蘇生)		Aoi has normal skin and black hair.
Heartbeat (心電計)		Aoi's head becomes a heartbeat monitor and she wears a white tunic.

Hybrid (ハイブリッド)		Yuuka's colors become mixed. Pressing Shift changes her colors.
No Face (無顔)		Yuuka has no face.
Plushie (縫い包)		Yuuka's eyes are closed and she wears a pink outfit, revealing hidden objects.
Allium (アリウム)		Yuuka's head is replaced with an Allium flower.
Flower Crown (花冠)		Yuuka has flowers in her hair.
Paint (絵の具)		Yuuka becomes colorful. Pressing Shift returns her to the Nexus.

Tsukiya's Traumas
