Like [[.flow]], .ExE involves entering the dream world through a computer, specifically clicking the .EXE button on Carrie's PC. Similar to [[Hallucigenia (ハルキゲニア)|Hallucigenia]], Carrie takes on a different form in the dream world. The main objective is collecting effects and exploration. Two wallpapers are available for the computer. One of the nexus doors is barred permanently after viewing a cutscene immediately after entering it.
Like [[.flow]], .ExE involves entering a dream world through the protagonist's computer, with Carrie clicking on an application as opposed to Sabitsuki immediately entering. Carrie saves using a floppy disk icon on her desktop. As a cosmetic feature, the wallpaper can be changed between two images.
