The game stars Ichitsuki, who starts off in the hallway rather than in his room. It plays a bit differently than most fangames, as the player character already walks faster than most dreamers, along with some dialogue.
Journal Nikki is a traditional fangame that was initially labeled as being a parody fangame during its early development.
 
The game stars [[Ichitsuki]], and begins in the hallway rather than in his room. Ichitsuki can leave his room but refuses to go beyond the hallway to the living room. In his room, Ichitsuki can access a Pac Man-like minigame called "French Michets".  


When getting into bed, Ichitsuki can face different directions. Sleeping while facing down triggers some chasers to appear in the dream world. Left and right have no adverse effects. Ichitsuki refuses to sleep facing up and will instead face down.
