Title Screen

Paradox Lost is a Yume Nikki fangame currently being worked on by user Onslaught14. Though no version is currently finished, the game has it's basic design planned out. The game centers around a boy named Kairu. The name originates from Africa, meaning 'Black One'. It is also the Japanese tranlation of the creators first name, 'Kyle'.

Protagonist

The game's progtaganist is similar to that of the fangame .Inspiration. as Kairu is a teenage artist. However, Kairu being an artist is due to the game's creator wanting to incorpirate personal aspects of his own life and personality into the character and game.

"I had a rough childhood, and I could have let that consume my life and turn me into a dark person. But I faced the demons of my past and I feel I've grown into a very omptimistic and happy person. Paradox Lost is sort of a glimpse into what my life could have been, if I hadn't let go of the past. Kairu isn't neccesarily an Anti-Me, but just a product of a "what if?" scenario I came up with. I always felt as an artist, I could explore my mind for inspiration for my work, and a way to release negative emotions, and I can draw happy, light hearted things, and dark, morbid things. I find it freeing in a way. When I discovered Yume Nikki, I loved it! Not only for its creativity, but its true representation of the mind. Full of crazy, colorful things that we enjoy, but also the darkness a lot of us keep hidden from ourselves. That's what nightmares really are. Being forced to see the areas of the mind you repress. In Paradox Lost, Kairu must explore all of this."

~Notes from Onslaught14

Kariu is medium height teenager, with chin length, messy, dark brown hair. Unlike most Yume Nikki games, Kairu's eyes are open, revealing them to be blue. This is most likely to the creator giving a hint to the theme of "facing your demons". Kairu wears an orange hoodie, black pants, and crimson shoes. As stated, he is an artist, which will play into the game mechanics. Worlds vary in theme from light hearted, to neutral, to dark and morose. Characters will also vary, most likely appearing in worlds corisponding on their appearance and feel.

In his room, Kairu has a a Bed, a dresser, a Drawing desk, and a night stand. There is a door leading out of his room, which upon interaction, will cause Kairu to say "I just want to be alone for now." implying he may be planning on eventually leaving his room. If Kairu's desk is interacted with, he will say "I wish I could think of something to draw..." implying he is suffering from art block or lack of inspiration. Kairus room is a tad messy, a few pieces of paper and clother on the floor, messy bed. Kairu has posters, or possibly his own or others art on the walls.

Kairu seems to be nervous and shy, as well as depressed. He can talk to some NPC's, but will stutter and act nervous. However he trys to be polite, showing he at least has manners. He also seems to be either gentle or simply not violent, as he will not attack peaceful NPC's, which seperates him from other Nikki protagonists.

Game Mechanics

Game controls are planned to be simple. however they are undecided at this point.

Dialouge is planned to be implimented. Kairu may comment on some things observed, and some peaceful NPC's may speak as well.

Though the specific information for the Worlds hasn't been desided, the basic theme of the worlds has been made. (ex. Water World, Forest World, etc.)

Kairu can enter his nexus by going to sleep, via his bed. You save by acessing Kairu's drawing desk (which has laptop on it.)

The main goal of the game is to collect at least 18 of the 24 drawing. The drawings can be found throughout the worlds, either on their own or through interaction with other characters. There are effects as well. A total of 10. Though not all effects are needed to complete the game, all effects have a use.

Effects

Hatchet - similar to the Knife Effect in Yume Nikki. However, Kairu only use's it on malevolent enemies, as well as special interactions with the enviorment. Due to Kairu's peaceful nature, you will be unable to kill peacful NPC's.

Goggles - Kairu puts on a set of goggles. Equipping them reveals hidden things. Equiping them may cause cosemtic changes to the area, as well as NPC's. Kairu will use these to find a few hidden drawings and possibly effects, as well as see the secrets the worlds have to offer.

Cat Boy - Kairu gains cat ears and a tail. Will attract non-malevolent NPC's, as move those who are blocking a path or a doorway. Similar to the Cat Effect in Yume Nikki.

Fat - Kairu's body bulges with fat, his hoodie riding up to reveal part of his stomach. Unlike Yume Nikki, this effect has a use. Kairu will become slow, but will be able to sink in water, allowing him to explore flooded or under sea areas. It is only needed to enter these areas, and can be unequiped afterwards.

Robot - Kairu becomes a Robot, and will be ignored by malevolent NPC's. However, it will not stop their movement. If one of these NPC's walk into or if Kairu walks into them, they will send Kairu to an enescapable like normal.

Fishboy - Kairu's hair becomes swampy green, his skin turn a pail teal, and he will get fins on the side of his head. This effect will allow Kairu to move twice as fast in underwater areas. It can only be equipped in these areas, and will be unequipped upon leaving.

Cloud - Kairu's body will become an orange cloud, the same color as his hoodie. Kairu will be able to move twice as fast. However, in underwater areas, he will move twice as slow.

Fedora - Kairu will put on a grey fedora. Allows him to teleport back to nexus

Dog Boy - Kairu will gain dog ears and a tail. A parallel to the Cat Boy effect, equiping the Dog Boy effect will cause malovolent NPC's to stop moving if near Kairu.

Flame - Kairu is engulfed in flames, though he isn't harmed by them. This effect allows Kairu to illuminate dark areas better.

Endings

There are 3 endings planned for Paradox Lost (so far.) I would warn about spoilers, but these endings may change when added of the game.

Inspiration Found (True/Good Ending)

This ending is recieved if you collect all 24 drawings and all 10 effects. Kairu will wake up, his room appearing brighter from sunlight in the windows, as well as cleaner and more organized. Kairu will take a quick look around his room, head to his desk, getting some paper (and a pencil possibly) and then leaves his room. This ending implies that Kairu has found his inspiration again and is willing to give the world a chance.

Inspiration Lost (Neutral Ending)

This ending is recieved if you collect 18 to 23 of the 24 drawings, but collect all 10 effects. Kairu will wake up, his room the same as in-game. He get out of bed and walk over to his drawing desk. He will pause and then say "I guess I should just quit..." Kairu will then walk out of his room and the game will end. This ending implies Kairu has given up drawing, or prehaps, simply accepts his art block and moves on with his life.

Inspiration Destroyed (Bad Ending)

This ending is recieved if you collect 18 to 23 of the 24 drawings, but do not collect all 10 effects. Kairu will wake up, his room dimmer than usual, and completely trashed. He will get out of bed, pause in the middle of his room for a few seconds, then walk over to his drawing desk. He will get what looks like a gun, and walk out of his room. A gunshot will be heard and the game will end. It is implied that Kairu commited suicide, possibly infront of his family.
