Overview

Asleep is a traditional English Yume Nikki fangame by Rimururu. It has multiple endings, some unfinished, and was developed in RPG Maker 2003.

Gameplay

The player explores Ametsuki's dreams, which contain hints on the consequences of her horrendous actions in the past, and collect effects. The dream world can be accessed by sleeping in the bed.

The player can save using the open book on the table. Bugs in this game are partially intentional, others are unplanned.

Plot

According to the readme.txt file, Ametsuki is suicidal, and murdered those who pushed her to her breaking point. After locking herself in her apartment and planning her death, the consequences of her actions begin manifesting in her dreams.

Effects

The sprites of the effects are matched to their names judging by their appearance only.

Short Hair/Black Hair		Ametsuki has short black hair.
Black Cat		Ametsuki turns into a large black cat with red eyes. Pressing Shift makes her meow and return to the nexus.
Demon		Ametsuki grows demon horns on her forehead. Pressing Shift makes blood pour from her eyes and mouth.
Dyed Hair		Ametsuki's hair is dyed black.
Flower Crown		Ametsuki wears a thin and delicate flower crown with violet flowers.
Gakuran		Ametsuki wears a gakuran (male school uniform).
Garbage Can		Ametsuki sits inside a garbage can. Pressing Shift makes her try to fit completely into the garbage can.
Head		Ametsuki carries her decapitated head in her arms. Pressing Shift makes blood spurt from the bottom of her head/neck.
Knife		Ametsuki holds a butcher knife that can be used to kill NPCs.
Mechanism		Ametsuki becomes a cyborg.
Photographs		Ametsuki's head is in a photo frame. Pressing Shift makes the face change from Ametsuki's to Haruko's and Akito's.
Skeleton		Amatsuki becomes a skeleton. Pressing Shift makes Ametsuki lift up her skirt, showing that her legs are skeletal.
Sweater		Ametsuki wears a black cardigan over her uniform. Pressing Shift makes her stick her hands in her pockets.
Winged Shoes		Ametsuki has winged shoes, like the ones from Greek Mythology. This effect increases her speed.
