Overview

Dream Escaper is a Japanese Yume Nikki fangame created by S.Izumina in WOLF RPG Editor.

Gameplay

Dream Escaper is a non-traditional fangame centered around exploration. This game has a unique feature in which players can warp to different worlds (known as "layers" in-game) using the first option in the menu, rather than having a central hub (i.e. bedroom or Nexus) to return to. Much like other games, it features various chasers among these layers that will send the player to a game over sequence when caught. The game also includes the ability to talk to most NPCs and save from the menu.

The goal of the game is to explore, collect Items which will grant the player new abilities and achieve one of the game's three endings. As the game goes on, players can unlock various features from the title screen including a minigame, a music player and a Memories section which logs certain accomplishments the player has fulfilled.

Plot

You play as a faceless girl named Dres and explore a strange dream world. Throughout the dream, you meet various characters that likely represent Dres in some way, but not much is known beyond this point.

Mushroom (きのこ)		Dres holds a pink mushroom, drawing certain NPCs towards her.
Lantern (ランタン)		Dres holds a lantern, allowing her to see clearly in dark areas.
Jewel (ほうせき)		Dres wears a green jewel around her neck.
Key (かぎ)	N/A	Dres wields a key. Can be used to access certain areas.
Needle (はり)		Dres holds a needle. Can be used to kill NPCs.
Melodica (けんばんハーモニカ)		Dres carries a Melodica around.
Rocket (ロケット)		Dres wears a rocket jetpack on her back, increasing her speed.
Flame (ほのお)		Dres carries a flame.
Mysterious Box (ふしぎなはこ)	N/A	A box appears and makes Dres disappear briefly, teleporting her to a specific spot on whatever layer she's currently on.
Liquid (みず)		Dres drinks purple liquid, making her transparent. This makes her undetectable to chasers (though they can still catch her if she interacts with them).
Eye (め)		Dres holds a purple eyeball that can reveal hidden objects.
Old Notebook (ふるびたノート)		Dres carries a brown notebook. Obtaining this item unlocks the Memories (おもいで) section on the title screen.
Coin (コイン)		Dres wears a red coin around her neck. NPCs have a chance of dropping coins when killed when this item has been obtained.
Invincible (むてき)		Dres wears a mask, making her unable to be caught by chasers.
Blue Certificate (あおのあかし)		Dres wears a blue sign around her neck.
