Overview
SpeluNikki is an English Yume Nikki/Spelunky fangame created by Sierpinksi Simon in Construct 2.
This fangame features character sprites created by Gobou. It is unknown whether permission was granted for use of these sprites.
Gameplay
SpeluNikki is a platformer game with roguelike elements. The game begins in a hub area with two doorways and a desk. The doorway on the right leads to a tutorial level that guides the player through the central controls and gameplay mechanics. The desk allows the player to track their progress by marking which worlds have been unlocked, what effects have been obtained and so forth. Progress is saved automatically.
The doorway in the middle leads to the actual levels where the bulk of the gameplay takes place. The player starts with four hearts and must complete each level by exiting via a door at the bottom floor. Obstacles come in the form of spikes and different enemies with different types of attacks. Killing enemies may drop effects which grant the player certain abilities to help them progress through the game. Completing a level in full unlocks a shortcut accessible through the room to the left of the Hub. Getting hit by an enemy costs the player a heart. When all hearts are lost, the game ends, after which the player can either restart from the very beginning or return to the hub.
Additional collectibles include yen that appear as gold or gemstones, and items that can be picked up by crouching over them and pressing X. These items generally consist of long-range weapons that make fighting enemies easier. Items can also be purchased in stores that sometimes appear in a level. Hearts can be purchased via vending machines for 500 yen. To reach the ending players must complete all levels and defeat the final boss. A second ending can be unlocked through unlocking certain NPCs/events and completing a second run of the game without using shortcuts.
Madotsuki is the default player character in this game. Entering the room to the right of the hub allows the player to switch characters. There are four other characters the player can switch to:
