Overview
Dream RPG is a unique Yume Nikki Fangame released by Shit City Dreamer. The game contains dialouge and RPG-style battles, but is still early in development. The game is divided into routes accessed through the Nexus that branch out into paths to Nightmares, the boss battles for the game.
Story
The protagonist has "Dreamer" as a tentative name and identifies as nonbinary. They refuse to leave their room, insisting on dreaming and writing at their desk, which is the method of saving.
The dream world seems to be a mish-mash of stories, the sources of which can be found in the Dream Apartment that appear after obtaining an Effect or defeating a Nightmare.
Version 0.00 currently lacks an ending.
Effects
The game's Effects are used as equippable items that raise (and sometimes lowers) stats as well as changing appearance. The Effects available in the 0.00 version is:
- Plant: The first effect that can be acquired, and is mandatory as it's given by the Balcony Flower, who blocks the way to the Nexus proper. The Effect causes a flower to sprout out of the Dreamer's eye (who seems to be in discomfort in the face sprite) and its skills are beneficial; the Effect is offered at the beginning of the game for the sake of providing the player with healing outside of purchasing Fatigues.
- Computer: Found in the Red Computer World. Dreamer's appearance changes to that of a TRON-like outfit. The Effect comes with a high power attack and a skill that heals MP, but it also forces less HP. The Effect is given by finding a file in the Red Computer World; however, the player will immediately be confronted by a gang of enemies unless they wake up right there.
- Hero: An Effect found in the house in the RPG Maker VX Ace World, given by Ralph, the default character of RPG Maker VX. The Effect puts emphasis on defense with lowered offense. Currently lacks a facesprite and also wow the cape sucks.
Dreamer also comes with Dreamer as a separate skill class. Currently the only skill is the one that allows the player to wake up (only useable outside of battle), though a Scan move is currently slated.
