Overview

Kou (絞) (can translate to "constrict/strangle") is a Japanese Yume Nikki fangame created by Hokotate Makoto (鉾立真虚人) in RPG Maker 2000.

Gameplay

Kou is a traditional fangame with two playable characters: Okutsuki and Nawatsuki. The player will start out as Okutsuki. Sleeping in the bed will take the player into Okutsuki's dream world, while sitting at the desk will allow the player to save. To switch characters, the player must enter the room next to Okutsuki's through the balcony and interact with the small shrine.

Nawatsuki's gameplay section is similar to Okutsuki's. Entering the open door at the back of Nawatsuki's room will take the player to the Nexus. Interacting with the stuffed bear next to the shrine allows the player to save. The overall goal of the game is to explore and collect effects.

Okutsuki's Effects

Effect	Image	Description
Left Eye (左目)		Okutsuki's left eye turns blue.
Right Eye (右目)		Okutsuki's right eye turns red, allowing him to see hidden objects.
Reed Boat (葦船)		Okutsuki rides in a reed boat, increasing his speed.
Marine (海兵)		Okutsuki wears a Marine Corps uniform and wields a sword. Pressing Shift makes him unsheathe the sword and allows him to kill NPCs, which bloodies the uniform.
Silver Fox (銀狐)		Okutsuki becomes a silver fox.
Dwarf (侏儒)		Okutsuki becomes a dwarf. This decreases movement speed, but allows Okutsuki to enter small spaces.
Tree Moss (木毛)		Okutsuki becomes covered in tree moss, decreasing movement speed. Pressing Shift will warp him back to the dream bedroom.
Dragon Flute (龍笛)		Okutsuki carries a dragon flute. Pressing Shift makes him play a few notes.
Face Cloth (面布)		Okutsuki wears a cloth covering his face, causing chasers to ignore him.
Disaster (禍殃)		Red fragments protrude form Okutsuki's face.

Rabbit (うさぎ)		Nawatsuki wears a pink rabbit hoodie. Some NPCs will be drawn towards her.
Small Boat (こぶね)		Nawatsuki rides in a raft. This effect increases Nawatsuki's speed.
Sailor (せーらー)		Nawatsuki wears a sailor uniform.
Oinari (おいなり)		Nawatsuki becomes wrapped in fried tofu. This effect lowers Nawatsuki's speed.
Dwarf (こびと)		Nawatsuki becomes a dwarf, decreasing her movement speed.
White Paste (しろねり)		Nawatsuki becomes white with red eyes.
Horns (つの)		Nawatsuki grows pink horns.
