Overview
Overview
Ultra Violet is a Japanese Yume Nikki fangame produced by heat_thinker (gozo-ropp) in RPG Maker 2000.

Ultra Violet is another Yume Nikki fan-game; produced by gozo-ropp (Pixiv)
Ultra Violet stays on the lighter side of the spectrum in terms of atmosphere - one of the primary visual motifs being rabbits, for example -- with the exception of a handful of violent or suspenseful areas.

It revolves around a young girl known as Sometsuki who explores her dreams while sleeping, she also appears to be a sleep-walker. Like many other protagonists, attempting to leave her room just results of a quick shake of the head and some sounds.

The player saves via the computer with a movable cursor, similar to those in The Looking Glass and Me. The player can also change the menu skin and play a mini-game from the computer. Like Yume Nikki, sitting on the rolling chair in the dream bedroom and pressing the interact key while facing the computer allows you to move about in the chair. The chair reduces your speed to half instead of quarter in Yume Nikki, but you are unable to use effects until you leave from the chair in front of the desk.

The protagonist saves via use of a computer with movable cursor, similar to those in The Looking Glass and Me. From here the various menus can be selected and the player can save the game.

Like Yume Nikki, in the dream world, sitting on Sometsuki's rolling chair and pressing the interact key while sitting facing the computer will allow you to move about in her chair! Unlike Yume Nikki, the chair does not reduce your speed at all, but you are unable to use effects until you return the chair.

Plot
Plot
Not much is know about why Sometsuki refuses to go outside, or much about her dreams, but they are rather light,(save for a few worlds, and some events) so it is possible there is something she wants to escape from, or doesn't want to face (similar to Lcd Dem's plot). However, the game is still at 0.03, and no endings have been implemented yet, and a lot more events will most likely be in later versions of the game.

Additionally, an additional "effect" can be purchased from the Supermarket for 1000 coins: the ability to save inside the dream. The easiest way to procure sufficient funds for the purchase is to repeatedly murder the shopkeeper and raid the cash register. (Though other ways of gaining money are still avaliable, such as searching for monet or killing NPCS.)

Overview

Ultra Violet is a Japanese Yume Nikki fangame produced by heat_thinker (gozo-ropp) in RPG Maker 2000.

Ultra Violet stays on the lighter side of the spectrum in terms of atmosphere - one of the primary visual motifs being rabbits, for example -- with the exception of a handful of violent or suspenseful areas.

Gameplay

Ultra Violet follows the traditional style of the genre, consisting of exploration and effect-hunting, along with vending machines and buyable effects/features. Ultra Violet plays up the collectibility of selectable menu skins, an aspect only briefly touched upon by other games.

Menus:

 1. Violet - Default menu.
 2. Silver - Another starting menu on the computer.
 3. Monochrome - Another starting menu from the computer.
 4. Orange - A checkered orange menu with white font.
 5. Cookie - A pattern composed of cookies on a violet background.
 6. Hexe - (Hexe means "witch" in German) An arabesque menu in tan.
 7. Hexe Violett - An arabesque menu in lavender.
 8. Old black - A black base menu with white font. The menu which is used in Famicom world.
 9. Old blue - A blue base menu with white font.
 10. Violet II - A checkered violet menu, another starting menu on the computer.
 11. Green - A checkered green menu with white font.

Controls

 • Move - Arrow Keys
 • Interact - Z/Enter/Space
 • Open Menu - X/Esc
 • Effect Action - Shift

Plot

Ultra Violet revolves around a young girl known as Sometsuki who explores her dreams while sleeping; she also appears to be a sleep-walker according to the writing "Sleep-Walker" (夢遊病) next to her name. Like many other protagonists, attempting to leave her room just results of a quick shake of the head and some sounds.

Not much else is known about the games plot. It's possible there is something Sometsuki wants to escape from, or doesn't want to face (similar to Lcd Dem's plot). However, as of version 0.05, no endings have been implemented yet, and a lot more events will most likely be in later versions of the game.

Technical Difficulties

 • There is a known issue where downloading the game under the English locale causes all of the files to be improperly named, rendering the game unplayable. To mitigate this issue, potential players must first set their locale to Japanese (not through AppLocale, but through the Windows Control Panel) and then download and run the game.
 • It is possible that a black screen may occur when entering in the Shrine Labyrinth, preventing the player from correctly visiting the area. Visiting the blonde girl room in Old Storehouse World and seeing her outside of her curtain, and then revisiting Shrine Labyrinth directly after this should fix this, letting the player visit the area normally.
 • It is possible that the Cushion Rave event may instantly trigger upon visiting Liminal Building, preventing the player from correctly visiting the area. Visiting Shrine Labyrinth and then revisiting Liminal Building should fix this, letting the player visit the area normally.
 • It is possible that the Guilty Smile event may instantly trigger upon entering the room with the paintings of toothy smiles and dark eyes in Banquet Hall, preventing the player from correctly performing the event. Visiting Shrine Labyrinth and then revisiting Banquet Hall should partially fix this, letting the player perform the event normally, though the final part of the event will still end a bit earlier than intended.
