Overview

Me, め, or 目 (lit.eye, sprout, or bud) -- as in the phonic syllable, not the pronoun -- is a game made in RPG Maker 2003 about a girl with the same name as the title. Made by someone known as M-256, F-16, or Isasapiens , the game consists of the eponymous Me going inside her mind, or "dreaming," by the use of the stereo system in her room.

The atmosphere is similar to .flow's, with dark and often visceral imagery. Me draws a lot of its inspiration from both .flow and Yume 2kki, with similarly styled areas to the originals such as Flying Fish World, Hospital and the Kaibutsu School. As would be guessed, Me also frequently features eyes.

A remake of Me is currently in development.

Gameplay

Me's style of gameplay resembles both LCD Dem and .flow.

The objective of the game is to gather all the orbs and effects. The few effects that are in the game are used to help the player find the orbs. You must collect all 25 orbs in order to receive one of the game's three endings.

Me is vast and dense, with many events packed into an enormous dream world.

Effects and Items

There are 9 effects found in the game. Their abilities can be used with the action key, SHIFT. Contrary to most fangames and the original Yume Nikki itself, all of the effects found in Me have a purpose and can be used frequently.

Eye Fruit is the game's Medamaude, which replaces Me's head with an fruit-like eye and is used to teleport back to the nexus. It can be found by interacting with the eyeball tree in Sponge World.

Eraser serves as Me's weapon, obtained by falling through the hole in Pencil World and proceeding through the next few rooms, then interacting with the pink eraser on the ground.

Wings boosts Me's speed, and can be found by going to the Bleeding World from the Nexus, through the green vine doorway, and interacting with the bloody body on the left side of the screen.

Distort scares Terus away and makes Me look like a monster, with five eyes. The effect can also be used to activate certain entryways, such as the one to Pink and Black World in the Tile Maze. Pressing Shift makes Me look up and jump. It can be found on Purple city, by taking a box on the snowy area and giving it to the clerk, who in turn gives you money and a key. Use the key to open the door of the top-right building and interact with the mirror inside.

Mask changes Me's color when applied. It can be found by going through the white building in the Mother 3 World, accessed from the Monochrome Hand World, and then heading north to the lone building and interacting with the theatre mask inside. Its description says "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA," perhaps a reference to Yume Nikki's Uboa, something very likely due to the fact that its location seems to be a parody of Poniko's house. The Mask's effect in use scares away Terus and allows you to kill them.

Color Wheel inverts Me's color palette when used and gives her a pony-tail. It can be used to trigger events with NPCs.

Lollipop can be found in the Mother 3 Area with the mailboxes. Interacting with it will cause Me to place it in her inventory. You can give it to a Charlotte look-a-like in one of the mailboxes.

Box is found in the Igloo World and used to obtain the Distort effect. It's a blue rotating block that moves around until you pick it up.

Key 1 is the key the red-haired clerk gives you in Purple City. Use it to unlock the previously restricted doors of the other buildings in the city.

Unique to the remake:

Magnet makes Me's hair red with a magnet on her head. Using it attracts most NPCs. This effect seems to reference Magnetman from the Megaman series.

Weather creates a cloud and Me has two different heads, which glow when shift is pressed. Whenever a head glow, a weather shows up, depending on which head is glowing.

Effect mixes:

Eye Fruit + Wings = Throne turns Me into a wheel within a wheel which has wings and is full of eyes. It still has the Wings effect's speed boost. Pressing shift makes the wheels spin.

Eye Fruit + Distort = Sprout turns Me onto a weird white monster. Pressing shift makes Me wave towards the screen.

Distort + Color Wheel = Noise makes Me a rainbow-colored semi-transparent silhouette. Pressing shift makes her distort and play a noise sound.

Weather + Color Wheel = Multicolor changes Me into a rainbow with an eye. Pressing shift changes the rainbow's colors.

Weather + Wings = Storm turns Me into a tornado with wings and multiple eyes. It still has the Wings effect's speed boost. Pressing shift makes the tornado spin.

Weather + Mask = Parasol turns Me into a umbrella, which spins if shift is pressed. It references the Umbrella effect on the original Yume Nikki.

Plot

Depending on which ending you get, you can see what exactly happened to Me and why she became a shut in.
