Overview

Oversomnia is an English Yume Nikki fangame created by Wamby. It was made for Dream Diary Jam 2 in RPG Maker 2003.

Gameplay

Oversomnia is a traditional fangame. The player enters the dream world by sleeping in bed and saves by using either the closet or the phone in the room. The latter also allows the player to view stats (how many times the player has slept, the number of effects gotten and the number of events triggered) and change the menu theme.

Unlike many fangames, there is a NPC (seated behind a booth next to the Nexus doors) who will provide hints and temporary item abilities for a fee. It has a Bestiary too, which offers a little bit of information about the NPCs, available by reading the book next to the phone.

Plot

You play as a boy named Irving, and your goal is to explore his dreams while collecting effects. According to the creator, Irving is part of a "dream club" whose three members gather or otherwise use other means to share the dreams they have. Therefore, unlike many protagonists Irving is willing and able to leave his room as he pleases.

Effects

Effect	Image	Description
Dust Bunny		Irving becomes a dust bunny, increasing his speed. Pressing Shift makes him hop.
Vampirism		Irving is dressed like a vampire bat, allowing him to kill NPCs and accumulate blood.
Scooter		Irving rides a scooter, which increases his speed like the Dust Bunny effect.
Mobile Phone		Irving carries a mobile phone. Pressing Shift makes him dial a number and return to the Nexus.
Tuning Fork		Irving carries a tuning fork, which oscillates when the Shift key is pressed. It is possible to alter certain objects by interacting with them.
Angler		Irving holds a bathyal lantern. Pressing Shift will draw some things closer to him.
Bed Hair		Irving wears pajamas and his hair gets messy. It slows down the movement of some things.
Deer		Irving becomes a deer, interacting with certain ledges will let him jump over gaps.
Skeleton Key		Irving becomes pallid and has small horns on his head. Allows him to enter locked doors.
Gargoyle		Irving becomes a gargoyle. Allowing him to see hidden secret in some worlds.
Wendigo		Irving becomes a wendigo. Allowing him to morph into certain NPCS upon interaction.
Ice Sculpture		Irving becomes an ice sculpture. Pressing shift will cause him to change forms, also freezing NPC movement.
Brimstone		Irving becomes a fiery entity, now able to melt ice by interacting with it.
Bellhop		Irving becomes a bellhop worker, which allows him to push some NPCs.
Formal		Irving wears formal attire, which makes NPCs interact with him differently.
